Several weeks ago, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation has informed the public that attendees are required to display a photo identification card before they can enter its venues. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen its GameSense player protection program and provide support for those struggling with gambling issues. This new entrance regulation came into effect on Monday, June 26, 2023 .
Individuals dealing with gambling challenges can sign up for Game Break, a program created by BCLC, which allows them to voluntarily exclude themselves from gambling venues in B.C. This participation grants them options for temporarily stepping back from gaming activities at B.C. casinos or through PlayNow.
New Entry Requirements Effective
Starting Monday, individuals are required to show government-issued photo ID for entry into any casino. Security personnel will scan the IDs and cross-reference them with the Game Break database to ensure that those who have opted for self-exclusion cannot enter the premises.
BCLC President and CEO Pat Davis noted that players have been informed about the recent changes in the entry policy through various awareness initiatives. In efforts to encourage responsible gambling, the CEO also pointed out that residents have continuous access to support resources, including free treatment and preventative measures available through Gambling Support BC .
Improved services in 2023
This year, BCLC has implemented several enhancements to improve the gaming experience for participants. With a partnership lasting three years with Intralot, the company will receive technology for retail sports betting, which will facilitate the growth of retail sportsbooks throughout the Western Canadian province .
BCLC also entered into a collaboration with Everi Holdings Inc. earlier in 2023 to utilize its advanced Everi Compliance Anti-Money Laundering system. This partnership integrates the solution into BCLC's land-based and online gaming operations, benefiting over 600 establishments. online gambling sites are already using this technology.
