The IPSOS survey, a well-regarded social research organization, highlights that close to half of Canadians express their dissatisfaction with the gambling commercials currently broadcasted.
Aim of the Study
The number of online casino enthusiasts in Canada has surged dramatically over the past few years, with revenues recorded between May and June 2022 reaching an impressive $2.68 billion. As new local markets emerge, especially in Ontario and the recently developing Alberta, Canada is increasingly focused on capturing online casino revenue domestically rather than allowing it to flow offshore.
As a result, there has been a noticeable increase in the frequency and specificity of gambling advertisements, aiming to draw more players to engage with locally licensed establishments. However, the fact that 48% of Canadians are unhappy with these ads raises questions about their effectiveness in achieving this goal.
Result specifics
According to IPSOS surveys, 63% of respondents are in favor of the current ad placements, with 21% strongly agreeing and another 21% somewhat agreeing that there should be limitations on the number of gambling ads. The findings suggest that Canadians are now more outspoken in their opposition to the promotion of gambling, often expressing their views on social media.
In terms of ad enjoyment, 49% of individuals from Alberta report that they do not find these advertisements appealing, while 36% in Atlantic Canada share the same sentiment. Additionally, a notable 54% of young adults aged 18 to 24 express their disapproval of gaming commercials.
