Early patterns of behavior begin at a young age, and the NCPG ( National Council on Problem Gambling ) has presented findings that suggest children who encounter gambling at an early stage are significantly more inclined to partake in risky gambling behaviors as they grow older.
Why should we be worried? Since lotteries are among the most commonly participated forms of gambling in both Canada and the broader North American region, children face considerable exposure due to the easy access to lottery games.
The Gift Responsibly Campaign
This is precisely why, towards the end of 2023, the Gift Responsibly Campaign was introduced to tackle this pressing concern. This initiative unites a collective of 66 lotteries alongside 84 community organizations worldwide, which encompasses all recognized and authentic lottery operators in both the U.S. and Canada.
Furthermore, it has received acknowledgment from the World Lottery Association and the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries .
Especially for the Holiday season
The ongoing campaign is set to run through November and December, featuring a variety of strategies aimed at addressing this issue, such as training for retail locations, educating communities on the dangers of gifting lottery tickets, and executing social media outreach.
During the press event for the Gift Responsibly Campaign, NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte stressed, “It is vital for adults to realize that they should refrain from gifting lottery tickets to children or any minor.”
Canada’s legal framework demands strict adherence to Responsible Gambling protocols across all of the best online casinos .
